ICONS DE LA NARRATION The 10th International Cairo BiennaleLES

The project treats drawing as a semiotic apparatus where Islamic, folkloric, and iconographic codes are reactivated as operational signs.Dynamic drawings function not as representation, but as ritual instruments. Mystic and ritual markers are extracted from their historical contexts and redeployed within contemporary scenarios. The materials—ink, crayon, pastel—are not formal choices. They are agents. Medicine is employed as activator, testing the threshold where inscription becomes incantation. The work positions cultural depth as material condition. Icons do not illustrate narrative; they generate it. The human figure is treated as interface where historical sign systems and interactive social relations collide. The inquiry diagrams how ritual forms persist by mutating. The contemporary scene is produced at the intersection of icon ritual and lived scenario. What is drawn is not image. It is protocol for activating cultural memory through material means.
